March 1997 Appalachian Trail Fun Run

Set up as a bare bones, minimal support training run for Barkley, this fun run turned out to be not quite so much fun.
Unseasonably cold and windy conditions met the runners at 12 midnight as the run began.
Another goal of the run was to cover the full 88.3 miles in a single day. David and Robert Yougren were the only two that completed the entire run, which started around ThunderRidge and finished up in the area around the Priest.
This 88.3 miles is believed to be the greatest single distance ever covered on the Appalachian Trail in a single day.
